Exploration of Expressing a Single Idea
Monday, 03 November

For the first 10 weeks of this class we have explored alternate ways of visually communicating ideas. We have focused on the abstract and metaphoric image, and specifically on the technique of combining symbols and visuals to produce meaning beyond what those symbols and visuals would normally communicate.

Objective

Explore the many ways a single idea can be communicated.

Methods and Materials

Open.

Process

From the real world examples that were brought into class, you will be assigned a single idea derived from one of the examples. Take this idea and express it as 4 of the following 7 ways:

  • an image without words
  • an image with words
  • just typography
  • a series of images
  • motion graphics / movie
  • a 3d object
  • a designed experience

Additional restrictions and/or options may be given to individual students on a case by case basis.
